What's actually wrong

  • You are optimizing before deciding. You add polish without a target or time cap.

  • You treat first drafts as final products. Zero tolerance for visible flaws freezes output.

  • You work until it "feels right" instead of until a measurable threshold is met.

Fix it like this

  • Cap the work: set a 60-minute timer, ship whatever exists at the bell, and log the result in 1 line.

  • Define good enough: write a 2-line spec in minute 1, target outcome and a 70 percent quality threshold.

  • Finish in two passes only: Pass 1 create the full ugly draft in 40 minutes, Pass 2 tighten for 20 minutes, then stop and publish to the agreed channel at minute 60 (or grab a quick-start outline from 7 Steps to Change Your Life).

Make it stick

  • Constraint: No third pass, no new polish after minute 60, edits go to a separate list for the next cycle.

  • Review cadence: Friday 4:30, 10 minutes, count shipped items and note one improvement for next week.

  • Enforcement: Calendar alarm at minute 60, auto email or post at minute 61, laptop lid closed at minute 62.

Do this today

  • 8:50, write a 2-line spec on paper, outcome and 3 bullets max of what "70 percent" means.

  • 9:00 to 9:40, draft the entire thing end to end, no images, no formatting, text only.

  • 9:40 to 10:00, run the second pass, fix titles, verbs, and numbers, ignore design.

  • 10:00, publish to 1 pre-chosen place, Slack channel or client folder, not both.

  • 10:05, log "shipped 1" and the time spent, takes 60 seconds, then schedule the next 60-minute block.

Rotating micro-device

  • Constraint Card: "Two passes only. 60-minute cap. 70 percent quality minimum. Publish at minute 60." Keep this card on your desk and read it before you start.

Cut the fluff, set the 60-minute cap and ship one imperfect win today.
