Change doesn’t stick if your identity doesn’t shift
New routines fail when you’re still thinking like the old version of you.

Your job called—it wants better business news
Welcome to Morning Brew—the world’s most engaging business newsletter. Seriously, we mean it.
Morning Brew’s daily email keeps professionals informed on the business news that matters, but with a twist—think jokes, pop culture, quick writeups, and anything that makes traditionally dull news actually enjoyable.
It’s 100% free—so why not give it a shot? And if you decide you’d rather stick with dry, long-winded business news, you can always unsubscribe.
You can’t out-hustle who you believe you are.
That’s why new habits fall apart.
That’s why you “start strong” and snap back.
That’s why people read 20 books and change nothing.
Because the outer behavior changed.
But the inner identity stayed the same.
You were trying to build new results…
While still thinking like the person who doesn’t get those results.
Here’s how to break that:
Stop saying “I’m trying to be consistent”
Start saying “I’m someone who follows through, period.”Stop saying “I’m working on discipline”
Start saying “I don’t break promises to myself.”
Identity is what locks in behavior.
You act in alignment with who you believe you are.
If you don’t shift that, no tactic will save you.
So here’s your challenge:
Pick one old identity you’re done with—lazy, inconsistent, average.
Write down its replacement.
Then act like that version of you today.
No fluff.
No easing in.
Flip the switch.
