A lot of daily plans have one hidden requirement:
You need to feel good enough to follow them.
You need decent sleep, a clear head, enough patience, and no surprise problems. When those conditions disappear, the plan starts breaking apart.
Then people make the mistake of treating lower capacity like a character problem. They try to force the same workload through a worse operating condition.
That usually creates one of two outcomes.
You either grind through badly, or you abandon the plan completely and tell yourself you will restart tomorrow.
There is a better option.
Build the reduced day before you need it.
I call this Capacity Modes.
Instead of having one version of your workday, you define three in advance: what a strong day can hold, what a normal day must protect, and what a rough day still needs to preserve.
The point is not to lower your standards whenever you feel tired.
The point is to separate the standard from the volume.
For example, imagine your normal plan includes three hours of focused work, exercise, admin, and planning tomorrow.
On a rough day, trying to preserve all of that may be unrealistic.
But “do nothing” is not the only alternative.
Your reduced rule might be:
Protect one important work block. Reduce everything else before you delete the priority.
That keeps the day smaller without making it meaningless.
The full Capacity Modes tool does four things: defines your three operating levels, protects the work that survives every level, tells you what gets reduced first, and gives you a clear rule for moving between modes.
That is what you are building below.
